Name The Cortelyou Flower Bar

The folks from The Farm on Adderley are all set to open their new flower shop-by-day/bar-by-night establishment at 1118 Cortelyou by the end of the month, according to Brownstoner. The paperwork and permits appear to be in order, as seen in the photo to the right. The only thing still up in the air is the name. The best the owners have come up with so far is "Monkey's Wedding", a South African term for the rare occasion in which rain falls while the sun is shining. Something about that name sounds a little too pretentious for our tastes. I mean, let's not get ahead of ourselves here- it's sandwiched between a furniture store and a bodega. We just hope the owners consider some of the great suggestions from Brownstoner's commenters. We like the keep-it-simple suggestions like "Barflower" and "Stem", but we'd also be cool with telling our friends to meet us at "VineBar" or "Nectar". Commenter Tyler over on Ditmas Park Blog wants a return to ultra simplistic times with a name like "Cortelyou Flower Shop & Bar". What do you guys think? Vote for your favorite name in the poll at the right or add your own suggestion in the comments below.

Not so sure about "Barflower" ... a bar that includes the word "BARF" ? I don't think so..

I think Monkey's Wedding is an interesting choice. it means sunshower, I think, but it sounds a bit like a toy shop, but an unusual and whimsical name...
my suggestion --

mille fiori
-a thousand flowers

Anyway, good luck to them and welcome, FV, to the Flatbush blogscene

I would be very careful with any name that had Monkey in it especially in this neighborhood. Also there was a bar in Manhattan a few years ago that had the same problem and consequently failed. Vine bar has a nice ring to it.

How about "Wallflower"? It has an understated irony to it as a name for a bar, and I think people have (thankfully) largely forgotten about Jakob Dylan's band by now.

Vine Bar sounds very cool!

You definitely should have a name that has a relationship with a flower and a bar, like either Cortelyou Flower Bar or Vine Bar. It should be simple sounding and not a name that sounds like it came from the upper east side in Manhattan like Stem or Nectar. We are in a totally different type of neighborhood and we should be grateful for that. Keeping it simple is always the best way.
