While waiting in line at one of the stalls at the Farmer's Market on Cortelyou Road a few weeks ago, I overheard this conversation from two women standing in line behind me who looked like they were in their late sixties.Woman 1: Have you heard of that new chichi restaurant on Newkirk?
Woman 2: What kind of food is it?
Woman 1: French
Woman 2: How can a restaurant like that survive there? Have a lot of rich people moved into the neighborhood?
Woman 1: It's supposed to be very nice.
Woman 2: What used to be there?
Woman 1: A bodega. A bodega with drugs.
Woman 2: That's too bad. That's a neighborhood business.
Woman 1: It had drugs.
Woman 2: How do you know it had drugs? Is that where you bought yours? (almost laughing)
Woman 1: (dryly) Of course.
