Just as we feared, CB14 (via DP Blog) reports that trains will be skipping Newkirk Avenue in the upcoming weekends. This weekend, Feb. 21 & 22, trains will run normal on the northbound tracks and run express southbound between Prospect Park and Kings Highway, skipping Newkirk Avenue. Then next weekend, Feb. 28 & March 1, the trains are going to run normal on the southbound tracks but will run express northbound between Kings Highway and Prospect Park, again skipping Newkirk.This will inconvenience people who catch the Q train at Parkside, Beverley, Cortelyou, Newkirk, Avenue H, Avenue J and Avenue M.
We're definitely re-evaluating weekend plans. We'll probably skip the two parties we'd hoped to go to since we don't want to end up punching the MTA executive who came up with this bright idea and landing in jail for seven years. Looks like we'll be getting a lot of chores done around the apartment the next few weekends.

this has been in the works for years and the MTA has worked very closely w/ CB 14 to minimize disruptions. Isn't this just part of living in a city w/ a subway system that has to be upgraded. My understanding is that there are only going to be handful of weekends during the life of this project (b/w 1 and two years if I'm not mistaken) where there will be this level of service disruption.
Definitely a bummer though.
It's very annoying to have service disruptions (we don't have a car either so are totally dependent on public transportation), but it can't be avoided if they are doing major upgrades to the stations. I'm happy and excited they are actually doing a full renovation of these stations-- looking forward to the results.
